Heart Development

We are interested in vertebrate heart development and everything else that has to do with the heart. Our favorite model is, of course, the zebrafish because of its transparent embryos and their ability to survive for several days even in the absence of a functional  heart and without circulation. This special property allows us to study mutations that affect heart development until very late larval stages. By now, the zebrafish has become a very versatile model, with forward and reverse genetic tools at hand.

I am working on atrio-ventricular valve development, the structures that prevent blood from flowing backwards….
